Harry Fox – Senior Ecologist, MWA

Bats were a major constraint at a recent housing project in Somerset and the preservation of well-used flight corridors linking multiple roosts was crucial for a successful planning outcome both for the client and for the bats. Despite being approached relatively late in the process, Lorraine pulled out the stops to help guide the developer and us ecologists through the potential minefield of lighting options across the site. The approved strategy which resulted achieved lighting levels no greater than at present across the site and avoids impacts on one of our rarest bat species. I look forward to working with Lorraine again on future tricky sites!
