Local Authorities
The project:
A trial area which was to lead the way in street lighting controls for the UK. The grid square had crime issues, was visually unappealing and had been neglected by the local authority. The council wanted to show it was doing something to assist with the situation and wanted to trial the new lighting specification in an area which had the least challenges from an installation point of view.
The brief:
Make a difference to the community, trial the proposed lighting control system on a large scale and enable implementation of the scheme for energy saving and flexibility in use.
The result:
The first and largest full remote monitoring (CMS) system in the UK. This scheme paved the way for the street lighting industry to use controls on the national electricity networks and to save energy by having Elexon agree the reduction in usage as legitimate.
