Regeneration Lighting Design: Basildon Town Centre, Essex

The project:

The main focus of a town centre regeneration plan, this key space needed to reflect the towns identity and provide interest to a stark and somewhat austere visual scene.

The brief:

To bring together the community, to show a more fun and interactive side to the town centre and to attract more business and visitors. Integration of festive lighting into the day to day functional lighting to enable a broader approach to change and allow some room for revenue generation from the space.

The result:

The lighting enlivened the visual scene for the town and enabled the visitors to the space to interact with the lighting through controls based interface. Lighting could be changed to suit the events that take place and could be used to bring revenue from local business by sponsored lighting scenes. The stark 1960’s architecture now has a modern twist with the lighting bringing colour change LED and functional aspects which give a 3rd dimension to the large concrete thoroughfare.
